Long overdue update.

Hi, sorry I haven't posted in a while. But here is an update.

I finished spraying my helmet. I have sprayed all of the colours onto it now, all except the yellow killstripes, although I do have a stencil for it which is going to be sprayed yellow/orange hopefully by the end of the week. Pictures:
I have also added a make shift 'make-do' visor that lasted me through comic-con in October and the halloween season, which was made of 2 sheets of acetate; one green and one dark grey. Did the job perfectly, but I felt the mandibles needed the added rigidity of a solid visor so I have bought one, and I am now waiting for my hot-glue gun to arrive! I have also finished my knees, although I have had a comment from someone on TDH that was saying that he thought they were a bit too yellow for ESB. But, I am going to leave them for now, then maybe in the future, mask them leaving the scratches then giving them a dusting of an orange spray paint.

Here are some pictures of my costume in its glory over Halloween and Comic-Con!

Other news

Jetpack is primed and ready to paint, the missile is painted and finished! Thrusters are getting there, just more detail in those than anything else. Armour will be in the post this weekend, blaster is already on it's way as are the knee armour plates. Along with this I ordered some items from evolution. I bought aluminium knee darts, gloves and utility pouches, but because he was delayed sending them by 15 days he has put something in to 'help finish' my costume as 'compensation'. Which is awesome! Top notch service!

Helmet is nearly ready for painting!

Went to my parents house last night and made use of a drill, so I have mounted magnets to hold the earpiece on, mounted the stalk and drilled a hole in the top of it ready for the rangefinder to go on the top. Awesome! Going back next week to cut the visor out! I also drilled 2 holes in the jetpack ready to mount the harness! Going good!

Rangefinder

Tonight I have began to put together my rangefinder, but unfortunately there wasnt much flash around the outside of any of the parts, so they all have some rough edges. Going to see if I can another set. But if not it'll do the job :).

Some more jet pack work

Been getting on with my jet pack as I just had a panic that I have less than 5 weeks to get it done! So today I finished sanding my jet pack, filler'd up the uneven plastic on the bottom of the pack then the uneven mould on one of the thrusters. I also noticed there were some bubble holes on the rocket so i filler'd that. Then today I finally got the paint out and primer'd the thrusters and rocket. Images:

Jet pack progress

I have very nearly finished sanding my jet pack and I have begun to use filler on the rocket and thrusters as the paint on those wasn't peeling.

Ammo/utility belt

Hi again. This week my utility belt arrived so I got straight down to it and weathered it up with my house key & sanding paper! Looking really good!

Other than this my flash tube for my blaster FINALLY arrived. Two weeks worth of first class. Nice one royal mail!

Haven't got a lot done as I have been playing dead island non stop since the release date. One of the best games I have played in a long time. I will be updating much more now as I just downloaded the blogger app for my iPhone! :D

Helmet is here!

Hi again, sorry about the long wait. But my helmet arrived this week! I have already sanded and trimmed the excess resin! :D Very excited about my helm!

In other news, more random bits and bobs have arrived, I now have all the paints I need, Mother is moving the pockets on my jumpsuit to where they should be and my ammo pouch belt has arrived! All storming along now and my armour is going to be finished this week!

Jet Pack & Cape

Hi another update! Today my jet pack arrived and so did my tk409.com cape!

After looking at the jet pack closely, I have realised that the paint work isn't the best. The scratches are very unconvincing as is any of the weathering. Not to mention some of the colours are wrong. There were some cracks in the mould in some points, one at the bottom and one on the right side:

So, after making the decision to spend another £10 on the paint required for the jet pack, I have begun to skin it of its current paint. Luckily I did this as the paint is just peeling off due to no primer being used... So I ended up skinning most of it off with the tip of a knife instead of a sander! So it now looks like this:

I am now just trying to find a colour that would work! It seems to be one shade darker than my helmet will be (Tamiya Field Grey) which is frustrating. Anyway, I will be sanding this for the next 2 or 3 evenings to get it completely bare. I am going to try and super glue the cracked sections back together for a tiny bit more rigidity then I will then be using filler to build up the areas around the cracks to make them smooth again. If you know a spray paint I can use for the main green colour on the ESB jet pack, let me know! Thanks for reading!

Update. Things are arriving, beginning to gather paints.

Hi, I have enough stuff now to make an update worthwhile :). Things are starting to arrive in the post gradually now and I am beginning to sort myself out with some paints for my Cold Cast helmet that is arriving next week.

My jumpsuit arrived early this week, but I realised it has a major flaw. The shin pockets for the tools, are too high up, they're practically over the knees. I will be getting the mother to work her sewing magic I think to take them off, and re attach them in the correct place, and I will be tucking the lower legs a bit tighter to the shin too. Other than that, the jumpsuit is perfect!

I have also got some more bits for my blaster, PVC pipe for the main barrel & scope mounts, a metal revolver handgun for the main frame of the blaster and a scope for... well, the scope. I have also got a flash tube in the post on its way!

I have acquired 5 paints so far for the helmet that are the best I could find with guidance from the members at The Dented Helmet. 2 more paints, a primer and black are in the post. I was struggling to find the perfect tool to apply liquid latex to create detailed scratches in the helmet, but I have bought a 'Colour Shaper' to help place the liquid latex accurately.

Also making their way to me:
  • Cape from tk409.com.
  • Ammo pouch belt from eBay.
  • Armour pieces, knee pads, gauntlets & shin tools from Richies Armor.
  • Metal helmet & visor from TDH.
  • Heiland Flash Tube from TDH.
  • Black paint & Grey Primer paint from eBay.
  • Jet Pack from eBay.
So this next month should be very interesting!

Some more bits in the post!

Over today I have found and bought some more bits for my costume. I have bought a scope for the top of my Blaster and some tools/resources to use to make it. The scope should be the right size, I used some dimensions posted on the Dented Helmet forum and this scope was the cheapest one that fit the bill :)

So it begins.

So, I have just made my first purchases for my costume. Getting me started I have bought
  • Jumpsuit
  • Cape
  • Jet Pack
  • 2 bits to be used to make my gun from scratch ;)
And some custom armour is currently being made in the US for me by www.richiesarmor.com including all the armour pieces, the gauntlets and the tools that Boba keeps in his shin pockets. All fully painted.

Excited!
Hi, this is my blog following the story of me building up a screen accurate replica Boba Fett costume from scratch. I have spent the last few weeks talking on The Dented Helmet, The Bounty Hunters Guild and the UK Garrison of the 501st about where to start and where to avoid.

This all started when I realized I want to do something fun with my money I am earning in my spare time by doing freelance graphic design, and I felt like I needed a hobby to use the money with. I originally was going to get a replica Stormtrooper costume, but the officially licensed Rubies costume for £670 was being slated all over the internet with terrible reviews and pictures to prove it. I am a perfectionist. :P So I wasn't going to settle with a terrible costume that still costed me an arm and a leg. But unfortunately due to the amount of hard work that goes into the armour for a Stormtrooper costume, I couldn't quite afford shelling out £1000+ on a brilliant costume. So I thought I would go to my next favourite character: Boba Fett.
